Calendar Outlook Widget isn't the version of MS Outlook for S60 phones that you may have briefly been hoping for on seeing the title. What it is is an app and homescreen widget for displaying upcoming meetings and to-do entries in a simple, at-a-glance way. The app has nothing whatsoever to do with Microsoft Outlook of course, although it is a reasonable stab at a Nokia version of that app's Today View. On starting up the app for the first time you must grant it permission to rummage around in your calendar (You may have to do this a second time for the home screen widget) before getting to the main page - a full screen list of upcoming appointments and outstanding To-do items. There isn't much interactivity here - tapping on individual entries doesn't let you edit them or get at more details, although you can tap the title bar to go to your calendar. The page is fairly customisable though, with several built-in themes, colour scheme choices and optional background images aplenty.

Being able to see all your upcoming meetings like this is reallyhandy, but even more use is the included home screen widget. This is a standard height widget for use on a S60 5th Edition phone's home screen, and will display a scrolling list of events like a shrunken version of the main app. We were particularly taken with the speed of the app - if you tap the widget the full application loads almost instantly, fading up from nothing in a rather slick loading  animation.

Less impressive is the responsivemness of teh settings screen - the tiny drop-down menus are difficult to tap accurately and frequently just don't respond, or respond long after you have stoped frantically stabbing the scren. This could just be a limitation of the N97's rather coarse touchscreen but if so the coders should have designed around it by making the touchable areas bigger and splitting the options over more than one screen.

Although more editing options would have made this a more generally useful calendar app, what Calendar Outlook Widget does it does well. Configuring the app was a little frustrating due to some poor design choices, but now it is in place it is definitely something we will continue to use.
