Nokia E72 in Review: Super Streamlined MessengerNews surrounding the successor to the ultra successful Nokia E71 first surfaced via a YouTube video back in June, and while it has taken awhile to finally surface, the Nokia E72 officially began shipping in November - but what’s all the fuss about? To find out, read on after the jump for our overview of what looks set to be a very successful device indeed!

Nokia’s E-Series is heavily associated with business users, and rightly so, the devices, over the years, have pioneered out-of-office solutions for professionals that have to work on the move. The original E-Series devices were one of the firsts to introduce full QWERTY keyboards, email, and support for Office Docs on a mobile format.

Fortunately, the Nokia E72 ( carries on this legacy as you’d expect. However, it also brings a whole host of new features, design quirks, and additions to the seminal S-Series, ensuring that its progression as one of the best Series of business devices carries on over into 2010.

Design wise, the Nokia E72 is quite a looker with an extremely slimline 10mm body and an overall weight of 128g. In addition, the E72’s camera has been upgraded to a 5 megapixel beast, which means you’ll be able to take all some seriously detailed images with it.

Another alarmingly good aspect, that we absolutely loved about the Nokia E72 is the huge 16GB of onboard storage that it offers. Granted, this isn’t as big as the N900 or the X6, but it is certainly adequate for a device that is aimed at professional users - and lets face it, they always get left out when phone companies hand out storage!

Nokia have also added a new Optical Navi Key, which makes scrolling through menus, emails, messages, and maps a hell of a lot easier. Overall, this is an extremely welcome addition as it adds a whole new level of tactility to the device, and makes whipping through all kinds of documents and websites a breeze.

Another key aspect we love about the Nokia E72 is the inclusion of a 3.5mm jack, which doesn’t sound like a massive deal, but when you listen to a lot of music, it actually, really is!

Call quality, according to Nokia, has also been improved, which is often something that gets overlooked, but is nonetheless an important aspect of any device. So, in this respect, we’re happy to see they’ve taken care of it.

Apps and features wise, the Nokia E72 features support for Word, Excel, and Power Point as you’d expect, as well as improvements to the devices connectivity - the HSDPA connection will now support speeds up to a whooping 10.2Mbps. This means that emails, documents, and all important web browsing are never a problem, no matter where you are.

Additional points worth noting is that Ovi Maps comes as standard, as does Ovi Mail and Messaging meaning you can have all you IM and email accounts in one manageable place -- right on your phone. There is also support for Mail for Exchange and IBM Lotus Notes Traveler, which along with Ovi Mail, pretty much covers all the bases.

While the Nokia E72 took quite a while to actually land here in the UK, and this did put a few people off, it really shouldn’t, as the device itself is superb and is certainly a worthy successor to the Nokia E71, which has sold like hot cakes since its release.

In short, if you’re a fan of Nokia’s E-Series, this is a device you need to get your hands on.

    16GB of on-board storage? I think you\’re very mistaken:

In the box: 4 GB MicroSD memory card (with hot swap), support for up to 16 GB
