Best Nokia Smartphones of 2009Nokia smartphones have really come into their own in 2009. Not only have we seen the introduction of the first touchscreen in the form of the Nokia 5800, the first 8-Megapixel snapper in the Nokia N86 8MP, we've also seen a shift in flagship device with the arrival of the Nokia N97 and Nokia N97 Mini. That's without mentioning the Nokia N900. But which have been the best devices of the year? Find out which we which have succeeded after the jump...

Nokia N900 - check out our Nokia N900 review

The Nokia N900 was quite easily one the most highly anticipated devices of 2009 -- and for good reason too. The Maemo 5 powered N900 features an absolute wealth of specs and features that would make even the most hard-nosed geek salivate with lust. Because the Maemo 5 OS is Linux based, and therefore open source, the platform is basically a blank slate, which can be modified and moulded to developers whims, inspirations, and desires.

However, the N900 also features a 5-Megapixel camera, advanced video recording facilities, and a whopping 32GB of storage. And if that’s not enough, the Maemo 5 OS is so scaleable that you can mult-task as well as load an ever increasing number of apps - all designed to make the most of that high-resolution screen. Overall, this is an incredibly exciting device and one that we’ve loved covering. The future does indeed looks bright for the Nokia N900.

Nokia X6 - check out our Nokia X6 unboxing

The Nokia X6 which came out on the 27th November is a late arrival on the scene and we're still very much in awe of this device. The first of Nokia’s new flagship range, the X-Series, the Nokia X6 is a music -oriented device, and so much more. Combining 32GB of storage with Nokia’s Comes With Music ensures that you always have access to an almost infinite amount of tracks and albums. In addition, the ultra-sleek X6 features a 5-Megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics and twin-LED flash, as well as a 3.2-inch 16:9 capacitive touchscreen.

Nokia 5800 XpressMusic - check out our Nokia 5800 review

The Nokia 5800, which launched in January 2009, is one of our favourite devices, combining style, awesome media features, and an intuitive touchscreen interface. Essentially, the Nokia 5800 is all about the music, featuring Comes With Music, which gives you access to millions of tracks on the Nokia Music Store. However, it is much more than just a music device. The 5800 combines all the entertainment features you’d expect from a music-oriented device and finishes it off with some high-end smartphone accessories, applications, and features.

The large 3.2-inch touchscreen makes the Nokia 5800 the perfect device for browsing the internet, watching videos, and viewing pictures, emails and SMSs. In short, we absolutely love this device, as it combines entertainment with smartphone features, ensuring you get the best of both worlds -- which is probably why it shifted a whooping 8 million units...

Nokia E72

Nokia’s E Series is synonymous with business - the two go hand-in-hand, and have done for quite some time now. And fortunately, the Nokia E71 proved no exception to this rule.  What's more, it has passed that glory on to the recently released Nokia E72, whic takes the basic shape of the previous model - so we still get a cracking 2.4-inch screen and handy sized QWERTY messenger running the S60 3rd Edition OS but with a number of key tweaks. For starters, the Nokia E72 is slimmer and lighter and the keyboard has been updated so it is even more responsive than ever. Next comes the step-up to a 5-Megapixel camera, making this in line with other key smartphones.

Finally, the Nokia E72 is the consummate business device, giving you all the out-of-office support you will ever require, with full Docs integration, superior email coverage, and enough onboard storage to ensure that every spreadsheet, PowerPoint, and contract is stored safely on it.

How can you even call yourselves Nokia fans, if you don’t mention the E75 and N97 mini in that list lol? You should have made a bigger list, these too devices have had really good reviews across the blogosphere and online, I’d probably go as far and say they are actually the two best Nokia phones of 2009.
