Nokia Smashes Mobile Internet Targets Where would we be without the internet? We'd all be sat in front of a fire reading a good old-fashioned newspaper, that's where. What's more, the Mobile Internet is where it's at these as any phone worth its asking price needs web access to succeed. That's why it comes as no surprise that Nokia has smashed it Mobile Internet user targets. Find out more about the record-breaking Nokia after the jump...

Nokia had set itself a record of 80 million mobile Users by the end of 2009 and it seems the company has smashed through that target as there are now a reported 86 million people worldwide making the most of the internet courtesy of their Nokia handset.

Nokia has stated that it will release less handsets this year, as few as half of what we saw in 2009, so this growth will be made largely by Nokia offering new services, such as Ovi Mail and Nokia Money, but will also come from increased usage of current services.

So, where next for Nokia and the Mobile Internet? Well, it seems Nokia has now set itself the task of hitting 300 million online users by 2011, which should be in a revenue of around £1.8 billion. The ever expanding Ovi Store will also play a part in generating the users and the revenue but it's been suggested that Nokia will need to focus more on Nokia Music as well as its burgeoning Navigation services.

Nokia has stated it will release roughly half as many MODELS of handsets in 2010, not few handset shipments. Further, they expect their marketshare and overall shipments to increase, and smartphones to increase significantly as a proportion of those shipments. Nokia has always been the largest manufacturer of smartphones, and continues to drive the price of smartphones below the 99 euro mark (retail without subsidy).
