Ovi Player is the new app that has replaced Nokia Music for PC has the primary music player and window to the music store. We launched the app over the weekend only to find that it wouldn't open and continued to crash out. Want to know what to do if Ovi Player won't open? Find out after the jump...
Nokia Ovi Player seems to have developed a bug on some systems whereby it won't load simply crashing out. Now, we have Ovi Player on two different Windows XP systems and while one crashed out at the weekend, the second (so far) is fine.
It seems the problem is to do with a corruption in a file called MdataStore.db3, which is the database for all the music you've downloaded from Nokia Music. The way to solve the crashing problem and get access to your music is to delete this file, here is what you need to do:
The MdataStore.db3 file is hidden in both Windows XP and Windows Vista so the first thing you need to do is make all your hidden files visible. To do this in Windows XP go to Open Windows Explorer > Tools > Folder Options > View > Show Hidden Files and Folders.
Windows Vista users need to go to a different folder, go to Control Panel > Folder Options > View > Show Hidden Files and Folders. Once you have hidden files showing you'll be able to track the MdataStore.db3 file down.
Windows Vista users go to C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Nokia\Nokia Data Store\DataBase\MDataStore.db3
Windows XP users go to C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Local Settings\Application Data\Nokia\Nokia Data Store\DataBase\MDataStore.db3
Once you have located the file, delete it. You'll now be able to load Ovi Player as normal. The first time you run the player it will need to recreate the database. Hopefully, there won't be any further corruptions but if there is then simply carry out this process again.
We want to thank jimmyz over at the Nokia Discussions board for pointing us in the direction of this cure – good work fella!
