The Nokia N900 turned out to be one of the most complete, innovative handsets of 2009. It continues to surprise us though, as several users have managed to get the Nokia N900's Maemo 5 operating system to play complex 3D games such as Duke Nukem and Starcraft. To find out more, and to see videos of the games in action, read on after the jump...
At first glance, the Nokia N900 may not look like the perfect gaming platform, mainly due to the large touchscreen display that covers the front. Slide down the QWERTY keyboard though, and you'll have a variety of buttons to offer control.
Duke Nukem can be downloaded for your Nokia N900 by opening the Application Manager and searching for 'Duke Nukem 3D shareware'. The game is controlled using both the QWERTY keypad and the touchscreen display – with the screen being used to fire. Although it sounds quite tricky, it looks reasonably easy, with the game also running quite smoothly.
Starcraft is controlled by a stylus, with the user tapping on the screen to direct the characters. It looks a lot simpler for those of you that are less coordinated, but the fact you'll need to use a stylus won't appeal to everybody.
One thing is certain though, and that's just how impressive the Nokia N900 is. The fact it'll run proper games such as Duke Nukem and Starcraft highlight the fact that it's not just a mobile phone, but also a fully featured entertainment device.
