Nokia N97 Firmware Update v21 to Support Ovi Maps

Nokia N97 Firmware Update v21 to Support Ovi Maps Nokia announced its Ovi Maps with free life-time navigation yesterday and also listed 10 devices that currently supported the new version software. Missing from that list was the Nokia N97, with a promise that it would be resolved with the next week or so. However, we now know why the Nokia N97 wasn't part of the original launch and you can find out too, after the jump...

The Nokia N97 will be gain support for Ovi Maps next week when a new firmware update version v21 will be made available. The current setup of the the Nokia N97 doesn't allow for Ovi Maps to be installed as it needs a clear 20MB of space on the C: drive in order to unpack all the information.

Nokia has confirmed that it will be making an update for the Nokia N97 next week that will most likely come with Ovi Maps already installed into the firmware or will at least allow users to download the new app and make the most of free navigation.

Expect the Nokia N97 firmware update version 21 to hit on the 28th January.

Once you have the update you'll be able to get download Ovi Maps.

    As long as you have the clear 20MB of space required on your C: drive, the N97 mini version of OVI maps will run on the N97.

    C: drive?? seriously… is that what symbian folks call local storage? Well Maemo folks would never identify ourselves with anything that comes out of Redmond, WA.

    Step 1: Go to http://maps.nokia.com/explore-services/ovi-maps and Click on the “Get the latest” link.

    Step 2: Select Nokia N97 mini from the dropdown list and download the OviMaps.sisx file to your desktop.

    Step 3: Copy the file to your Nokia N97 and use the Filemanager to install it.

    Step 4: Follow all the instructions to install the app and you are on your way finding directions for free.
