How to use your Nokia N97 Mini as a modem
The Nokia N97 Mini is an amazingly capable smartphone, and it really shines when it comes to compatibility with your laptop. If you’ve got a machine without integrated 3G, and need to access the internet when out on the road, it’s simpler than ever to use your Nokia N97 Mini as a modem. To find out how, read on after the jump…
Syncing your Nokia N97 Mini with your laptop couldn’t be easier, as long as you’ve downloaded the Nokia PC Suite. From here, you can carry out loads of different tasks – from reading, saving and sending text messages, to looking after your phonebook, to accessing the Nokia N97 Mini as a modem and browsing the internet on your laptop wherever you go.
Connect your Nokia N97 Mini to the laptop using the handset’s USB cable. It’s also possible to set up the phone as a modem using Bluetooth – but this means you’ll have to have the Bluetooth adapters on both your laptop and your phone turned on, having a big effect on the battery life of both. It’s also a lot easier to set up using the cable.
Plug the cable into your laptop, and into the Nokia N97 Mini. Click ‘PC Suite’ from the options that pop onto your handset’s screen, as this ensure the phone connects in the right mode.
Start the Nokia PC Suite on your laptop, and click the large ‘Click here to connect a phone’ icon, making sure your Nokia N97 Mini connects properly. It’s then a simple case of pressing the internet icon on the top right. Once you’ve done this, your Nokia N97 Mini will automatically function as a modem, letting you connect to the internet and browse the web on the move.
It’s worth checking with your network provider, however, as data rates for a full desktop internet are often different to the data rates on your Nokia N97 Mini itself, so you may accidentally incur hidden costs.
