Nokia 5800 Your Nokia 5800 is an amazingly capable device, but with all the features it boasts and the ability to act as your MP3 player, camera and personal computer, it's easy to see your battery drain away as you use it. It's also easy to conserve battery life, however, with over an extra day on offer from a single charge if you know what you're doing. To find out how to improve the battery life on your Nokia 5800, read on after the break...

The ways you can boost the battery life on your Nokia 5800 will depend on the way you use your phone, but one of the best ways – irrespective of use – is to turn the brightness on your screen down. Sure, it won't look as nice in comparison, but you won't notice after a couple of minutes, and having it on a dimmer setting doesn't affect usability at all. Simply go to the menu, click on Settings, Phone and adjust the screen from there. This should boost battery life by several hours, without effecting your phone in any negative way.

The next thing you should do to improve the battery life on your Nokia 5800 is to ensure that all of the wireless functions you're not using are turned off. It's easy to have Wi-Fi or Bluetooth running in the background, but both of these are a big draw on power and if you're not using them, there's no need to have them turned on. Simply go to Settings, and Connectivity, and switch Wi-Fi and Bluetooth off. Because it's so easy, you'll be able to turn them on again in seconds when required. As with dimming the screen, this should add an extra couple of hours to the battery life, so it's well worth doing.

If you get your emails sent to your Nokia 5800, it's worth looking at the times your phone retrieves emails. There's no point in the phone retrieving emails all night long, for instance, so you should set up a custom schedule where it stops retrieving them after a certain time – say 9pm. Do this by going to your email settings, clicking on Automatic Retrieval, and changing the retrieval settings. You can change the days – so you can save power by not collecting work emails during the weekend – and you can set longer times between your Nokia 5800 collecting your mail.

Finally, although 3G technology offers a fantastic web browsing experience on your Nokia 5800, if you spend more time talking than looking at the web it's worth going back to older GSM technology, as this offers far longer talk and standby times. Go to Settings and Connectivity, and under Network you want to change the setting from UMTS to GSM. If you find yourself browsing the web and it's a bit slow, simply do the reverse.

Does this add an extra day? Mine is already configured like this, but it last 2 days at most, even without calling, answering, texting, navigating, listening to music, wifi, bluetooth. The phone sits totally dark, it’s 3 months old, and it lasts for 2 days with a full charge. If I use a little wifi (about an hour), it last 1.5 days at most.

Actually, it depends on your use on the mobile. I had a friend of mine who’s using 6303, it lasts until 5 days. I don’t know how she do it. Well, anyway, nice page here.
