Mobile Work Congress has barely got under way and we've already seen the first amazing Nokia courtesy of The Symbian Foundation and the news that we'll see the first release of Symbian^3 by the end of March at the latest. Find out what the new iteration of the Symbian OS will offer...
Symbian^3 is on its way and we're likely to see the first handsets running the OS in Q3 of this year. The operating system is set to offer faster networking, improved graphics in both 2D and 3D, so we'll see games fly and apps launch and run with full motion.
The guys over Nokia Conversations have pointed out that Symbian^3 uses a more efficient memory management system, which means devices will be able to run multiple apps side-by-side.
Hardware improvements include automatic switching from 3G to WLAN networks without the signal dropping. The platform is also ready to support full 4G networks as they are rolled out. There is also built-in HDMI support, so devices running Symbian^3 should be able to send video directly to a HDTV.
If that's not enough, The Symbian Foundation have put together a video of what we can expect from Symbian^3. It looks like we've got a wait in hand but it sure looks like Nokia is set to deliver on its promise of a vastly improved OS by year's end.
