Nokia N97We’re big fans of both the Nokia N97, but it’s genuinely been transformed by the introduction of free turn-by-turn navigation for Ovi Maps 3.03. It looks like we’re not the only ones to appreciate the “brilliant” mapping on the N97, however, and there are lots of good reasons that make it better than other devices. The Nokia N97 features excellent screens that are ideal for satellite navigation. Along with a GPS chip and suitably loud speakers, they make the perfect sat-nav devices.

Instant and Accurate GPS lock

Using A-GPS, the Nokia N97 is able to get a quick and accurate GPS lock, letting you start navigation quickly.

Instant compass lock

Ovi Maps 3.03 incorporates an excellent compass function, with My Nokia Blog pointing out that “the compass is pretty much an essential thing for pedestrian navigation”.

A decent search function

Ovi Maps is now easily capable of matching and bettering Google Maps when it comes to searching. Along with surrounding attractions, Ovi Maps 3.03 even offers a Lonely Planet guide.

Overhauled User Interface

The menu for Ovi Maps 3.03 has been completely overhauled, and it’s a revelation. We’re particular fans of just how easy it is to use, coupled by incredible speed and stability.

Excellent turn-by-turn navigation

Nokia introducing turn-by-turn navigation has been a revelation for Ovi Maps, turning it into an application that can easily better Google Maps. Coupled with the Nokia N97’s screen, it’s a truly excellent package.

    Very disappointed with the weather changes. The old version 3.01 you could move the cursor around the would zoom in on a city or place go to “show detail” and see the weather report then go to “options” “full weather” and see the weeks weather and the nearest station were the report came from very upset would love the old verion back but told it cant be done.
