For all the advantages and features it has to offer, the Nokia N97 has never quite lived up to the hype, and for the past couple of months it’s been living in the shadow of the excellent Nokia N97 Mini. In a candid interview with Anssi Vanjoki, the Executive Vice President of Nokia, Vanjoki pointed out Nokia’s disappointment with the device, along with hopes for its reinvention. The biggest issues the Nokia N97 has faced since it was launched last year have been based around the software, with a series of bugs and performance issues that have frustrated Nokia N97 owners.
Vanjoki pointed out that this was a particular frustration – and that although the Nokia N97 has proved a massive success in terms of sales and generating profit, the software experience of the handset had left him having “sleepless nights”.
Despite the sales success, Vanjoki pointed out that the Nokia N97 was “a tremendous disappointment in terms of the experience quality for the consumers”.
In explaining the software issues, Vanjoki stated: “Even if you have the most stringent quality control mechanism, something slips. One thing leads to another thing – you fix that and actually you make things worse”
Thankfully, Vanjoki seemed certain that the quality control issues for the software are a thing of the past, and that Nokia N97 users should have no more issues. The latest firmware update for the Nokia N97 is said to have fixed the vast majority of problems, so hopefully this feature-packed smartphone will be able to live up to expectations in the future.
