Nokia C5 We’ve suspected for a while that Nokia has been working on a new naming structure for its handsets, and now it’s official. Today’s launch of the Nokia C5 has ushered in a new naming convention, with the smartphone range now made up of the Nokia C-series, X-series, E-series and N-series. There will also be a new numbering system, making it easier to find the ideal phone for your needs. To find out more, read on after the jump...

The new naming structure has been put in place to make it easier to choose between phones, with the Nokia N-series still sitting at the top of the pile. The Nokia X-series focuses on social entertainment, so expect feature-packed but affordable handsets aimed at younger users. As before, the Nokia E-series will still be aimed at business users and productivity, with the new Nokia C-series representing the core range of products.

According to Nokia Conversations, the new naming structure follows years of research, with the idea being a structure that’s simple and clearly denotes where each phone sits in the range. Nokia has also introduced a new numbering system, making things even easier.

You’ll now find the handsets are numbered 1 to 9, highlighting the range of features and functionality on offer, along with relative prices. With 1 being an entry-level device, and 9 being a range-topping handset, it really couldn’t be easier picking the best phone for your needs.
