Nokia-skype-phone-on-its-wayFollowing an interview with the General Manager for Mobile at Skype – Russ Shaw – it would appear that not only will Nokia be preinstalling Skype on its handsets in the future, but that there will also be a dedicated Nokia Skype phone on its way, offering a much more integrated user experience. To find out more about the Nokia Skype phone, read on after the jump…

Nokia released a Skype app for its regular Nokia handsets the other day, available to download through the Ovi Store. At present however, for most of its handsets the Skype app is a standalone application, with no real integration into the handset itself.

The best example of a Skype app on a Nokia smartphone is currently the version available for the Nokia N900, which is the only Nokia Smartphone to go a step further – offering neat features such as phonebook integration, where you’ll be able to ring Skype friends via your regular phonebook.

In the interview with Shaw – conducted by Electric Pig – the Skype GM pointed out that the Nokia N900 was the “benchmark” example of what’s available for Skype mobile, so you can expect a similar experience with a dedicated Nokia Skype phone.

We’re not sure what else will be on offer from a Nokia Skype phone at present – what operating system it would run, for instance – but it would be nice to see integration of the messages, perhaps the phone seamlessly swapping between Skype and your phone’s connectivity where possible.
