It’s only been one day since Nokia announced its partnership with in-car entertainment specialists Alpine, and already Nokia has been busy coming up with further innovations. Terminal Mode is set to be an industry standard that lets you hook up your smartphone to your car’s entertainment system, and could be the future of in-car music, navigation and entertainment. To find out more, read on after the jump…
Nokia Terminal Mode, which was revealed at the Geneva Motor Show this week, could be the future for the way your smartphone and car communicate with each other. It’s not just aimed at Nokia either, with the standard supporting all smartphones that adopt it.
With the ability to get your phone talking to the car, you’ll be able to share information between the two – displaying Ovi Maps on your car’s screen, for instance, or taking hands-free calls. It should also prove a great medium for playing the music you have stored on your Nokia back through your car’s speakers.
Nokia was also keen to point out that it shouldn’t be a one way process, stating: “this connection should be two-way so that the smartphone can access performance information from the vehicle itself and provide more relevant information to the driver”.
The press release for Nokia Terminal Mode also pointed out that “by potentially integrating car information such as speed and fuel consumption with navigation services on the smartphone the driver can get a more personalized and relevant service”.
