The Nokia 6700 Slide and the Nokia 7230 look very similar at first glance – both are slider phones and neither feature a touchscreen. Look a little harder, however, and the 6700 Slide is very much a mid-range handset, whereas the Nokia 7230 is an entry-level device. How do they get on in a head-to-head? Read on to find out if the Nokia 7230 is a cut-price version of the Nokia 6700 Slide.

There’s not much in it when it comes to design, so we’ve put together this head-to-head to help you decide whether it’s worth saving up the extra cash for the Nokia 6700 Slide, or opting for the cheaper Nokia 7230. Read on to find out more.

Screen

The Nokia 6700 Slide features a display that measures in at 2.2 inches – pretty standard for a non-touchscreen smartphone. The 7230 wins in terms of size, measuring 2.4 inches, but it can’t match the smaller handset when it comes to colour reproduction, with 262,000 colours compared to 16 million. As such, it depends whether you prefer size or a better quality of image.

Verdict: Draw

Connectivity

The Nokia 7230 is a great device when it comes to regular use, with GPRS connectivity that promises a great battery life whether you’re talking or texting. It also features EDGE for reasonably quick download speeds, but it can’t compete with the Nokia 6700 Slide when it comes to browsing the internet. The Nokia 6700 Slide’s HSDPA connectivity means it can browse the internet and download files at great speed, making it the default choice if speed is important to you.

Verdict: Nokia 6700 Slide

Camera

Reflecting its affordable origins, the Nokia 7230 boasts a 3.2-Megapixel camera, which is more than good enough to take photographs for Facebook and other social networking sites. The Nokia 6700 Slide is in a league of its own, however, with a 5-Megapixel sensor and Carl Zeiss optics helping it to take fantastic photographs that you’ll be able to print and show to your family and friends.

Verdict: Nokia 6700 Slide

Memory

Both of these devices feature microSD card readers, meaning you’ll be able to add up to 16GB of storage for your files and photographs. Neither come with a lot of internal memory as standard, although the Nokia 7230 just edges it, with 70MB of internal memory rather than the 60MB found on the Nokia 6700 Slide.

Verdict: Nokia 7230

Applications

You’ll be able to add loads of applications to either of these phones using the Ovi Store, so here it’s simply down to what comes pre-installed on the phones. Applications on the Nokia 7230 include Flickr Image Upload and Nokia Maps 2.0, and you’ll also find Opera Mini Browser, making it easy to surf the net. The Nokia 6700 is the better phone in this case, however, as it also comes with Facebook, Friendster, Twitter and other social networking apps, along with Instant Messaging and an FM Radio.
