Symbian-3-demoIt’s only been a couple of weeks since Mobile World Congress, where the Symbian Foundation showed its first demos of the upcoming Symbian ^3 operating system, but with the OS expected by the end of this month, more demos have now appeared. Offering a host of innovations, it looks like it could revolutionise future Nokia products. To find out more, read on after the jump…

Symbian ^3 promises to bring a host of improvements over the existing Symbian S60 5th Edition OS, which although a good platform, is starting to look slightly dated in comparison with devices such as the Maemo 5-based Nokia N900.

The demo below shows Symbian ^3 in action, but one of the biggest improvements will be the inclusion of multi-touch – something that will help Nokia to better the very best rivals. Interestingly, the new OS will also support multi-touch on resistive panels – and not just capacitive – which is a bonus for those of you who like using a stylus or want to wear gloves when operating your Nokia.

The interface has changed quite a bit over the outgoing Symbian S60 5th Edition OS, although there’s still a family resemblance. As with rivals, you’ll find multiple homescreens, and it looks like being a lot easier to customise the operating system to your requirements.

Although Symbian ^3 won’t be available for existing handsets – such as the Nokia N97 Mini – it does promise to revolutionise future Symbian-based handsets.
