The Nokia PUSH Mod in the US initiative has been running for a few weeks now, with the aim of finding the best and most innovative hacks for the Nokia N900. The decisions are finally in, however, with the winner of the competition walking off with a cool $10,000. To find out more, and to see who won, join us after the break…
The PUSH Initiative for the Nokia N900 has thrown up some genuinely innovative ideas, with the launch event in the UK seeing the Nokia N900 controlling a couple of pole dancing robots and a robotic DJ. It wasn’t the robots that won the top prize for the PUSH Mod in the US initiative, however, but an idea for a Bike Dashboard.
BrettSarah Tops - which won the $10,000 prize - are the team behind the Bike Dashboard, which turns the Nokia N900 into an odometer and a device to keep track of your speed, taking full advantage of the Nokia N900’s large screen. BrettSarah Tops even created their own sensor to monitor the bike’s wheel to track exactly how far they’ve travelled. The team have also built a bike mount for their Nokia N900, hacking the mount for a cycle reflector to bits and adapting it accordingly.

Another finalist was NIKO, a N900 robot controlled via Twitter. With the robot made out of Lego, and the Nokia N900 mounted at the top, the phone is able to receive your instructions over the internet, and as well as being able to control the directions, you can even make NIKO take a photograph and upload it to Twitpic.
The third team to make the final was Pit Crew, which took a completely different angle to the other teams and set out to control a couple of slot cars, ingeniously using light sensors to control the power applied.
