Nokia N97 Mini Proporta USB Cradle Review

There are loads of accessories available for this impressive handset, including the USB Sync-Charge Cradle from Proporta, helping to tidy up your desk. We’ve had one for a few weeks now – to find out how we’ve been getting on join us after the break…

The base of the Proporta USB Sync-Charge Cradle is a generic unit, designed to accommodate a range of different handsets. It features an inset plastic stand that holds the Nokia N97 Mini perfectly in place. There’s also a short micro USB lead that plugs into your Nokia N97 Mini while it’s in place.

It’s a shame the connection for the Nokia N97 Mini isn’t a bit neater, but with the micro USB port on the top left of the phone – rather than on the bottom – it’s not really possible to have a simple plug in design.

Coming from the base of the Proporta USB Sync-Charge Cradle, there’s a standard USB cable, letting you plug the stand either into a regular power adapter, or into your laptop for either charging or syncing your Nokia N97 Mini.

There’s a button on the front of the device for switching between the two, with an LED charging light to let you know when your Nokia N97 Mini is charging.

Build quality is good, if a little uninspiring. The plastics are all tough, but feature a dull shiny finish – unlike the soft-touch finish found on many of Proporta’s other devices, such as the Proporta Twisted Speakers that are also perfect for devices such as the Nokia N97 Mini.

If you’re in the market for a dock for your Nokia N97 Mini, then the Proporta USB Sync-Charge Cradle is worth a look. It’s a shame that you have to fiddle with an additional cable to charge or sync your phone – but with the micro USB port high up on the handset, there’s not really any way this can be avoided – and this is still a neat and affordable solution.

    I don’t understand why no one has created a dock for Nokia phones where the phone would lie on its side in landscape model? Then you could just drop in and it would work just as well for any of the touchscreen phones. It could even have a headphone jack built in with the holder at an angle that meant you would plug into both at the same time to dock to speakers and your computer.

    Am I missing something?!
