Total Recall Pro ReviewTotal Recall is another entry in the already fairly well stocked range of call recorders for S60 phones, such as the Nokia N97 and Nokia N97 Mini. Does it distinguish itself from the pack, find our with our Total Recall Pro Review.

Whether you just want to keep a record of your conversations or have some more nefarious use in mind involving premiership footballers and Max Clifford, being able to record your phone calls is a handy thing to be able to do. Total Recall Pro aims to make this easier, and to give you the option of doing it without being noticed.

By default, Total Recall will record every call (hence the name, we suppose) and save it to your phone's memeory in the ultracompressed AMR format. Like most aspects of this app, these settings are highly tweakable. You can ask the app to prompt you to start recording or record only incoming or outgoing calls. You can also make lists of numbers and ask the app to either record any call involving those contacts or conversely to record anything except those numbers.

Once a suitable call is placed the app will just start recording - you can opt to have a short beep played when recording starts, but this is turned off by default. We're not too sure of the legal side of this, although it seems likely that you would have to notify callers of any recording if you plan to publish the audio. Don't quote us though, we are most definitely not lawyers.

The lack of beeping does raise one issue for us though - there is no way to tell that Total Recall is doing its thing, unless you look in the task list (hard to do during a call). Some kind of 'recording now' notifier would have been useful if only to stop the memory card filling up with AMR recordings (this would take a while, they are fairly smal.. but you know what we mean). You can configure the app to only record when you press a hotkey (press and hold the green button, by default) which does at least give you some control.

Call quality is high and you have the option of saving in WAV format if you have trouble playing AMR files on your PC. This may be especially useful if you use Total Recall's 'autosend' feature, which will send each recording you make via email, MMS or HTTP to make an instant backup copy. Not a feature many people will need, but if you do a lot of recording (or are really paranoid) you may appreciate the convenience.

As icing on the cake you can alos use Total Recall as a simple dictaphone, although this function is hidden away in a menu rather than accessible via a button. This doesn't do much more than the built-in voice recorder app but does let you record to AMR, which may be useful.

Total Recall is a little pricey compared to some recording apps, but it is remarkably full-featured and easy to use.
