Google Chrome Appears on the Nokia N900

The latest in a long line of impressive hacks is the ability to use Google Chromium on the Nokia N900, potentially speeding up the way you browse the internet. The Nokia N900 is almost without limits when it comes to installing applications – irrespective of the platform they’re designed for. We’ve seen Windows 95, Mac OS X and even Google Android all running on this smartphone – it seems the only limits are your imagination.

The latest application to appear on the Nokia N900 is Google Chrome – a web browser that Maemo Arena claims to be one of the fastest on Earth. Called Google Chromium in this case – as it’s yet to be officially ported by Google – this browser nether the less appears to be a very impressive and professional install.

Better yet, it supports Flash content, letting you watch videos and other demanding content on the move, and Maemo Arena reports that it “works great”, with Flash content also working “very well too”.

That said, there are still a couple of bugs at this stage, but it’s likely these will be ironed out in due course. With a bit of luck, Google will also get involved, and make this an official app for the Nokia N900.

    I might be alone with my opinion, but anything google puts out is ultimately Ad-ware. Even if this browser ever hits the repos, I think people should stay away from it.

    Google maps, google mail, google calendar and google browser on your comp/phone = google knows where you live, who your friends are, what you do tonight and what sort of pron and products you like.. :)

    Yeah but have you heard of iAd?
    it’s worse.
    In fact anything that you get these days for `free’ is an ad.
    TV soaps are ads
    documentaries are ads.
    Metro news papers are ads..
    you get the idea

    Still I\’d much rather use Firefox, all we hear about browsers these days is \"speed\", to be honest I can\’t really tell the difference in performance on my laptop when it comes to IE8, Chrome or Firefox 3.6, we\’re talking fractions of a second at best. For most people it comes down to what a browser can do as opposed to saving 1/10th of a second
