Nokia Gets Location Happy With MetaCartaNokia looks set to strengthen its position in mapping and location based services further has it has announced the purchase of 'geographic intelligence solutions' firm, MetaCarta. That's a grandiose way of saying they deliver location-based information akin to what we've seen in Nokia's Here And Now and Point & Find services. Read on to find out more about MetaCarta and what it's purchase means to Nokia maps...

Nokia has announced that it has acquired MetaCarta Inc. a privately owned company with  over 30 staff that delivers location-based services. According to the press release, MetaCarta's products make data and unstructured content "location-aware" and geographically relevant for easier organization and quicker action.

Through the use of geographic search and geographic tagging it means Nokia devices will be able to better search and find services and content about any specific location. With this acquisition it would seem that Nokia is making serious inroads into content service delivery. There are no plans for MetaCarta announced with the acquisition but we can certainly see the company playing a major role in the development or both Nokia's Here And Now and Point & Find services, which sounds like great news to us.

What do you think, what are we likely to see change in Nokia's Here And Now and Point & Find services with the acquisition of MetaCarta? Let us know what you think in the Comments below.
