We’re really excited about MeeGo – the new OS seems to be getting closer to completion every day, and it’s also gathering a lot of support from other companies. With manufacturers such as Acer, Asus and even BMW behind it, it looks like MeeGo has the potential to be one of the best operating systems seen so far. MeeGo is set to replace Maemo in Nokia’s smartphone lineup, but the new operating system will also be used in a lot of other industries. From computing to the automotive industry, the Open Source nature of MeeGo makes it particularly versatile, so it’s no surprise to see there are a lot of companies in favour of MeeGo.
The Linux Foundation has published a report of all the companies supporting MeeGo, with 28 different companies currently behind the OS. While you may think of it as purely a mobile phone OS, you can expect to see MeeGo in the next generation of netbooks, and even at the heart of in-car entertainment systems.

Other companies to support MeeGo, according to the Linux Foundation, include EA Mobile and Gameloft, so you can expect a whole host of impressive games to be available by the time Nokia produces its first MeeGo-based smartphone.
There’s also plenty of support from other software developers, such as the Xandros, which should help to drive the OS forward. One thing is certain, however – with so much support from different companies and industries, MeeGo has a lot more chance of being a success.
