Since the announcement of the MeeGo operating system earlier this year, we’re still waiting for the first Nokia handsets to take advantage of the new OS. We’re expecting to see at least one device in the next few months, but in the meantime it looks like Nokia has also been working on an entry-level handset that isn't set to appear until 2011. To find out more, join us after the break…
If the rumours are true, then we could see a return to the tablet form factor for Nokia in 2011. The Nokia N900’s ancestors started off as tablets, so it wouldn’t be uncharted territory for the Finnish company, and a display size of at least 4 inches would take full advantage of the excellent Open Source operating system.
According to Slashgear, the new device could be even larger than 4 inches, making it perfect for media use. It also hints at a chipset based to the Qualcomm 7000-series, with the use of a Snapdragon processor providing plenty of power for your mobile computing needs.
The 7000-series chipset also features OpenGL graphics support, which could make the future Nokia Tablet as adept when it comes to gaming as the excellent Nokia N900.
Despite Slashgear hinting towards a huge screen for the potential Nokia handset, the website still refers to the device as a smartphone, so you can expect full connectivity rather than the use of just Wi-Fi or Bluetooth.
At present, no other details are known. However, we’d like to know what you’d like to see in a smartphone-come-tablet. Would you prefer your MeeGo device to be as large as possible, making it better for internet and multimedia use, or are you a fan of smaller, more pocket-friendly devices?
