Firmware Update 50.0.005 offers a few big changes for your Nokia 5800, including the usual bug fixes. One of the most noticeable is the inclusion of kinetic scrolling in the application menu, bringing the Nokia 5800 in line with more modern handsets such as the Nokia N97 Mini. The update also promises smoother running and minor performance updates.

Firmware Update 50.0.005 also offers compatibility with the latest version of Ovi Maps, bringing completely free turn-by-turn navigation to the masses. Firmware Update 50.0.005 will be available both OTA (Over The Air) and via Nokia Software Updater, although it may not be available in all regions simultaneous, so keep checking if not.

    Just update it to 50.0.005. Now you can actually have kinetic scrolling on the menu itself.. Map functions improvised. Music player has a different feel to it, when you select “artist”, u can see the artists and the album arts, the sad part is there is no more “exit” button when you are in the music player/library menu, instead you got to manually exit. Nokia said that the update actually improve the touch interface but I don’t see much difference.

    Any word on whether this fixes the disappearing / corrupted home screen email preview / notification a lot of us have been experiencing? Also, since I got v40 menu, changing between menus actually takes longer, not less time, I hope Nokia have fixed this too…

    hI GUYS!! I HAVE DONE THE SOFTWARE UPGRADATION, and its smooth. better scrolling. new maps are great and a little bit changes too in the interface…love the new software..go ahead do it!!

    I have software version 40.0.005. When i try to update on my phone it keeps on telling me that there is no new update even though I know there is v 50. I dont have decent internet to do it on my pc. Can anyone plaz help me??

    Today just update my 5800 to 50.0.005. it works really great but im bothered with the light flashing in menu button even w/o new message in standby mode in every 20 second and i think it can lessen the battery charge life

    @Alex E. That’s the breathing light. You can turn it off by navigating to Menu –> Settings –> Phone –> Notification Lights –>Standby br.

    Great firmware. Hope to get more from Nokia though.

    Two days ago I did update my 5800 to 50.0.005. and now I see some problems:
    1) I do synchronize with outlook meeting events and when an alert popup on the my phone I cannot stop or put it is silence by pressing buttons on the touch screen.
    Only thing I can do press red/real button which post pone notification for the five minutes.

    2) I did update maps as well and when I want to use GSP \"Rute nicht gefunden\"

    Anyone else see the same problems or maybe know how to solve them.

    I installed the latest version yesterday using laptop.
    Other features are cool but after the update OVI maps have stopped working. Every time I turn them on, the phone reboots.
    Any one else facing the same problem.

    i set an alarm & cannot stop or snooze it by touching the screen,

    hope nokia people can solve this prob.

    I updated my nokia 5800 to the 50.0.005. everything is fine except my album arts are not clear anymore. anyone can help me out with this problem? besides, my music player a slower than before especially when switching tracks

    Iv updated to 50.0.005 all the new stuff is good, but iv lost the full screen qwerty keyboard on the touchscreen while texting…anyone else has noticed this change? or is there a settings change to be made?

    After i updated my Nokia 5800 with the firmware 50.0.005 and updated the ovi maps, every time i try to close ovi maps the screen goes to all colours of the rainbow and the phone restarts???
    Anyone has a fix for this?

    hy there again.. i guess my phone is inffected with virus. i can no longer display my shortcut menus, dialler is no longer working, plus the format of all of my pictures were changed to .exe can somebody help me with this? im really really lost.. :-( bp12354@gmail.com

    Hi, updated mine and now it auto rotate sometimes does not work, but worst of all: the battery lasts less than half of what used to last. This fw sucks!!!!

    I’m in San Fran, CA, U.S. > I have found the newest firmware version available for update in my region seems to be V40.2.005 . I’m wondering if anyone knows when v50 will be available in the U.S.?

    I updated to 50.0.005 last Saturday. Since then (Five days) I’ve had to charge it three times which was not something I had to do before. Either my battery has coincidentally died at roughly the same time I did the update or this version uses considerably more power than the old version.
