The Nokia N8 is Nokia’s most exciting announcement this year, with the range-topping handset featuring a brand new operating system, new features and a specification to die for.
Unlike most existing touchscreen Nokia devices, such as the Nokia N97 Mini or Nokia N900 – which have come in for criticism from some quarters for featuring resistive displays, the Nokia N8 features a 3.5-inch capacitive screen. The Nokia N8’s screen also boasts OLED technology, offering better colour reproduction as a result.

The Nokia N8 is also the first device in the world to feature the brand new Symbian ^3 operating system, bringing features like multi-touch to a Nokia device for the first time. Existing owners shouldn’t get too worried about the swap to the new OS, however, as there’s still a clear family link between Symbian ^3 and the existing Symbian S60 5th Edition OS.
Other headline grabbing features on the Nokia N8 include the 12-Megapixel camera – a first for Nokia – which has the potential to offer staggeringly detailed photographs. The Nokia N8's camera features Carl Zeiss optics, and also boasts a Xenon flash, and you'll be able to record HD videos and output via HDMI. With such an impressive camera, you'll be needing the 16GB of built-in storage, and you can also add an extra 32GB via microSD card.
Prices for the Nokia N8 start at around the £320 mark before taxes, with the Nokia N8 going on sale in the third quarter of 2010.
