Development for mobile phone applications is set to get a lot easier, thanks to a new cross-platform simulator from Nokia that lets developers see what their apps will look like on different operating systems. The results? Better apps, we hope, irrespective of the operating system. To find out more about the new Nokia Qt SDK that makes this possible, join us after the break…
Developing applications for Nokia phones can be a tricky business, not least because of the existence of several operating systems – Symbian and Maemo, for a start – with MeeGo also on its way. As such, many developers tend to concentrate on one OS only, leaving the consumer with less choice when it comes to apps.
Thankfully, this is about to change, thanks to a new Qt SDK that’s currently under development by Nokia. At present only a beta, the new Qt SDK will allow developers to run a mobile simulator, to check out what their apps will look like on different operating systems.
5 things Symbian ^3 will deliver
The Qt SDK is said to simplify cross-platform mobile applications, so hopefully in the future there will be a lot more choice when it comes to apps, irrespective of what operating system you have. It also means you’ll be able to get your favourite apps on a number of different operating systems and devices, from Symbian to Maemo to Meego.
According to ARS Technica, a website that tried out the new Qt SDK, it’s possible to build applications in a modern environment with a modern toolkit. ARS Technica goes on to say that “it’s [the Qt SDK] an impressive advancement for Nokia’s mobile development tooling.
