Symbian ^3 is the latest Nokia operating system, and is set to replace Symbian Series S60 5th Edition on the majority of future Nokia handsets. As such, Nokia has been working on converting the software into a standard format, making it easy for developers to create applications and work with Symbian ^3.

The Symbian ^3 reference library provides an Open Source tool that means any developer will be able to design software for Symbian ^3, and should drive the new operating system on to great things.

According to the Symbian Blog, the Symbian ^3 reference library is “significantly improved from the previous version in that there’s much more content available”. Those worried about performance can also rest easily, with reports that there are “a number of updates and bug fixes” in place.
