Fruity Racoon is a free gastronomic game from the Ovi Store that has players gobbling up as much delicious fruity goodness as possible in an attempt to whack up the biggest score possible. Does it taste sweet? Or did it leave a sour taste in our mouth? Find out in our Fruity Racoon review…
Joining the fray of cute fun Ovi Store games is Fruity Racoon. As we've mentioned, the aim is to guide a cartoony purple racoon to catch as many fruits in its mouth as possible, while avoiding bad tasting insects and bombs that cause you to lose a life. It's a fun little title that, because of in-game adverts, its developers are able to charge nothing for.
As soon as we booted Fruity Racoon up on our Nokia N97, it got straight down to fruit chomping business. You won't see any flashy introduction sequences here. Hit play and it takes you straight in. It's well presented, with colourful, smooth looking in-game graphics it's one of the more eye-pleasing free Ovi Store titles. We also liked its cheerful, if somewhat repetitive soundtrack too.
What's it like to play? Controlling Fruity Racoon is simple. If you've got a compatible touchscreen device, simply place you finger in the direction you want to scurry towards. You won't need to keep tapping away at it; simply hold your finger at the desired location. If you want to move to the far left, place your finger down in the bottom left corner of the screen and vice versa.
It sounds dull, but it does get more interesting should you survive long enough and things start to speed up. With dozens of hazardous bombs and insects raining down on you it soon becomes a game of fast reflexes and timing.
As criticisms go, we'd prefer if the adverts didn't appear, but as they keep the game free we can't complain too much. Thankfully they're very easy to skip, and shouldn't cause much annoyance to most Nok gamers. We'd also like to have seen at least one more extra game mode and a little more level variety. Some food-gulping sound effects would have also been nice.
Overall, Fruity Racoon is a cute, fun title worthy of a few minutes of your time. It's slow to begin with, but eventually picks up the pace. It might be rather limited, but it's still a suitable distraction for your Nok. And it's free.
