Nokia N8 Mini – What Do You Shrink of That?

Nokia N8 Mini - what do you shrink of that? The Nokia N8 Mini doesn't seem too much of a stretch does it? In this age where every major smartphone launch seems to be followed by a Mini version. After all, Nokia started the trend with the Nokia N97 Mini. So, we're asking the question; 'What would a Nokia N8 Mini look like?' Read on as we investigate the idea of the Nokia N8 Mini.

What we know: The Nokia N8 is a 3.5-inch capacitive touchscreen smartphone set to run the Symbian^3 operating system. It packs in 16GB of memory and a whopping 12-Megapixel camera.

The Challenge: Shrink the Nokia N8 down for those looking for a Nokia N8 Mini version.

The guys over at Techradar have been looking at 'Mini' versions of smartphones recently and quite fancy the idea of a Nokia X6 Mini. However, that could well mean shrinking the screen down to 2.8-inch, which would lose some of the appeal.

No, we much prefer the idea of a Nokia N8 Mini and why not, it happened with the Nokia N97 before it, taking the 3.5-inch down to the 3.2-inch of the Nokia N97 Mini gave people a whole new option to play with.

Making the Nokia N8 Mini with a 3.2-inch screen would mean a tighter and even slimmer model and we'd be happy to see it drop memory to 8GB but naturally 16GB would be preferable. The big question is whether this smaller design would be able to handle a 12-Megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss Optics? We'd like to think so, as we're ticking that box too.

This being the Nokia N8 but in a more compact size, we'd still expect to see HD quality video recording and the HDMI port allowing us to link the Mini wonder up to our HD TV for that full movie experience.

Naturally, this would all be wrapped up with the super-speedy Symbian^3 operating system with its multiple Homescreens, support for 3D gaming and social media at the core of all the apps.

So what do you think, is Nokia likely to develop a Nokia N8 Mini and if so would you opt for a smaller screen or do you like what the full-blown Nokia N8 is set to offer? Let us know what you think in the Comments below.

No to Nokia N8 mini. There is no need to follow the N97 mini trend. Mini = Smaller sized, watered down, cheaper version ofthe original phone. If you want to make a small ‘mini’ phone (for lady’s hands?), design one from scratch. Don’t use the flagship high end smartphone model as a reference design.

The Nokia N8 is a touchscreen phone with a good camera. It needs every bit of extra space for its screen, both for touch input and for viewing videos/photos.

When the Nokia N8 gets a revision, all it needs is to be a 32Gb version, have a longer lasting battery and come loaded with Symbian^4. If a product is already successful, there is no need to make major changes to it.

You’ll get lots of competition from Apple, HTC/Google and Win7 Mobile next year. The company that does its software and apps store well will win. Good luck.

What\’s up with this mini trend??? Anyway, I own a X6 and its mini enough…Instead they should build a X6 XL or something. It\’ll probably sell better. It would be nice if Nokia started making handsets with 3.7 in displays. I really think the N8 should have had a bigger screen since it\’s competing against phones like HTC Desire, Incredible and the upcoming iPhone 4G.

we need a mini nokia n8 as all other companies hav smart phones in the range of 13000to 16000…..
there is no doubt it will be a mega hit…….
who ever wrote the above reply knows nothing abt market dynamics..
no one needs a 12 mega pixel camera in a ohone we still use digi cam 4 taking photos in important functions…
cam of 4 or 5 megapixel is more than enough in phone…
with advent of 3G there will be a surge in the sale of smart phones at affordable prices to common people…

Yes ofcourse N8 mini would be a really good seller as was n97 mini. As every consumer has its own needs. Mobiles are not purchased to just make a phone call and that is not the only attribute you look at. There are two attributes consumers look at!

    Features

    And size!!!

Price people have to bear with as every new phone is expensive. More feature the more it would cost.

I hope it is released as I currently own n87 mini and would like an n8 mini. I hate carrying large bulky mobiles

Would really like smartphone that comfortably fits in pocket. N97 is very nice. N8 Mini even better. Please make it LTE since my CDMA carrier will be moving to LTE. The advantage of the city dweller is that you can purchase NOKIA. My CDMA phone is Nokia 6265….
