Seize the day! Or, at the very least, Seize Your Phone! Carpe Diem Daily is a fun new app and web service from Nokia designed to get you using your phone's features, while giving you some lifestyle advice and interesting things to do. BUt does it live up to expectations? Find out with our Ovi Store App: Carpe Diem Daily Review....
Carpe Diem Daily is a strange cross between a social network and those "Little Book of 1000 Things To Before You Move My Cheese" books you find near the till in Waterstones. The idea is that, every day, Nokia will give you a task to complete. These are usually creative or social in nature. You can share your attempts to complete the tasks via the Carpe Diem website, and in the process hopefully get a bit more fun out of your phone.
As an example, today's task was "Draw a picture of a treasure map and leave it somewhere unusual for someone to find. (This task will work best if you leave some treasure at the end of it too!)". The app will let you take a picture of your creation, tag it with any comments and upload it to your Ovi Account for use with the Carpe Diem Daily website.
You can also share your task results via your Twitter account - an obvious move, and one that handily gets Nokia a bit of free advertising too, of course.
The tasks are pleasantly varied and often rather improving ("Who, in history would you marry?" "Try a food you have never eaten before" "Sow some seeds in your neighbourhood and nurture them to full bloom"). You have no obligation to take part in a task if it doesn't appeal, but if you do it is quite good fun seeing what others are contributing too.
If you like the look of someone else's contribution you can comment on it, or share it via Twitter, Facebook or other social networks.
App-wise, Carpe Diem Daily is well designed and holds your hand through any uploading or image/sound capturing. The biggest limitation - and it is a silly one, we reckon - is that you can only browse other people's task results from the website. It would be nice to be able to do that from within the app, if only for the entertainment value when out and about. Access to social networks other than Twitter is restricted to the website, too.
Still, this is good fun and Nokia promise they have a full 365 days worth of tasks to keep you busy. The day, right? Seize it.
