Nokia Instant Community is the latest project on the books of the Nokia Research Center. Promising to bring social networking to the masses, Nokia Instant Community uses the Wi-Fi chip in your handset to set up a adhoc wireless network with other devices, letting you talk and share content with your friends in an instant.
According to Nokia Conversations, Nokia Instant Community has been developed in conjunction with Tampere University of Technology (TUT), with Nokia Research Center cracking on with the technology behind the service, while the university designed the user interface for the concept.
As it stands, Nokia Instant Community allows instant messaging with nearby devices, without the need to pay network charges or use up your text allowance, and the concept also works with pictures, songs, and any other content you can think of.
