Ever since it first made an appearance as the Nokia N8-00, we’ve been eagerly awaiting the Nokia N8 as the first smartphone to feature the brand new Symbian ^3 operating system. However, despite the Nokia N8 being so close to production, and boasting an incredible specification, it looks like another company could beat Nokia to the crunch with its own Symbian ^3 handset. With the Nokia N8 so far along the line – we’ve already played with a near final production model, featuring an amazing anodised aluminium construction and excellent build quality, it never even occurred to us that there could be another Symbian ^3 handset out before the Nokia N8.
According to Slashgear, however, it’s looking like the Nokia N8 may have to settle for being the second Symbian ^3 handset, with an unspecified manufacturer from Asia about to release its own Symbian ^3 smartphone.

In terms of software, it would appear that Symbian ^3 is just about ready to go, with Lee Williams – the Executive Director of the Symbian Foundation pointing out that the OS is “almost completely mature”.
Still, we’d rather wait for the Nokia N8. Although we don’t know what the competition involves, we’re pretty certain it won’t boast a 12-Megapixel camera that’s anywhere near as impressive as the Nokia N8’s, with simply stunning HD video recording on offer.
