Nokia 5800 Firmware v50.0.005 Update Finally Arrives! The Nokia 5800 firmware v50.0.005 update may have sneaked out onto the world a few weeks back but it's taken until now for it to find its way to our Nokia 5800. Want to know how we've been getting on with the Nokia 5800 firmware v50.0.005 update? Read on and find out about the Nokia 5800 firmware update.

Yes, the Nokia 5800 firmware v50.0.005 update has finally hit and while it feels a long time coming it's been worth it. Our test Nokia 5800 seemed to have been stuck version v30 for what seemed like an age, so much so that it has skipped over the firmware v40 update completely and hit the BIG 5..0..

We can confirm that kinetic scrolling is working nice and smoothly on the Nokia 5800, allowing for easy scrolling on both the apps page and the in the music player, among others. Speaking of the music player, you'll find with the new update that you can now place it on to the Homescreen, something the likes of the Nokia X6 and Nokia 5330 have been able to do since the get-go.

The Nokia 5800 firmware v50.0.005 update also brings with it the new Ovi Maps 3.4 update, which you need to install separately but with it you'll find access to new maps and a whole array of new POI and service updates.

Interestingly, it seems that the music aspects of the Nokia 5800 firmware v50.0.005 update are the most prominent. For instance, alongside the ability to now have the music player on the homepage, Nokia Music has a new icon under the name of Ovi Music. It still drops you down into the standard Nokia Music, so it's merely a name change at this point.

Then you'll find a new app has been integrated into the Nokia 5800 in the form of the Ovi Sync app. Now, this app has been around in one form or another for a couple of years but this is the first time we've seen it as part of a major update. It works by syncing all your contact details, messages etc, with your Ovi Mail account, so you'll always have a backup of your stuff online, which is a neat idea.

In general, the Nokia 5800 firmware v50.0.005 update seems a lot more robust and stable and while the hope of a more interactive interface never seemed to materialise, the addition of kinetic scrolling helps speed things up.

The only major problem is that the scroll bar etc. etc. is now grey in colour instead of red which makes it much more difficult to use and highlight. Is there a setting to change this back??

After updating my firmware version version 30.0.011 my internet browser suddenly closes unexpectedly, Videos on Youtube will play for half a second and then freeze, when playing BBC iplayer, the screen sometimes just greys out so I can’t accessplayer controls, despite the player still playing audio.

Just a delight all around. Andnothing seems to have been improved or changed for the better.

Why did I update the firmware? Was there any point? Can my phone be returned to its original functionality?

In comparison with v40, scrolling is more natural and the screen is more responsive. Also, the browser is easier to use and automatically goes onto full screen mode – but anyone with sense downloads Opera anyways. The grey colour scheme is much easier on the eye (I used to have the terrible t-mobile colour scheme, which was mean on the beautiful chrome 5800 t-mobile had given to me) and the colour scheme appears to have an added 3-d effect – the colour of the virtual buttons are much more shiny. Ye is the Ovi store button.

I had the scrolling since v40, so there are no big changes. But the software seems to be a bit refined. I had music buttons since v40. But the 5800 is a work horse, which is getting better all the time.

Thank you Marcus, for an awesome more detailed review on the v50 update, especially seeing that you also already had the v40 update.

I also had the music player on the homepage since V.4 But i never had the album covers displayed alongside the album titles/song titles.

The scolling does seem more smooth and responsive.

V.4 was more useful to me as i loved the new way of sliding left and right to disable the alarm and to answer calls.

All is fine and good making the Nokia 5800 aka iPhone Killa a more stable phone. but the only drawback i could come up with is that we have lost the \\"Search\\" option in the media player, seems quit difficult to search for a file using just the kinetic scroll.. cant imagine scrolling through 8Gigs worth of mp3 or even worse wma files..

really hope Nokia brings back this crucial feature to the iPhone Killa..

V50 still not solves the problem of Voip/SIP setting and after installation of S60 plugin still not options is available for Net setting in 5800.
Anyone who has idea about this than let me know and guide me to enable the VOIP in 5800..

I downloaded the V.50 a few hours ago, and since then the Music Player doesn\’t respond, and on the one occasion it did, I had to refresh the library and it said there is no music on my phone, or card. If I refresh now, it gets stuck at importing 333 files.

Did this problem happen to anyone else? And did they overcome in.

I appreciate any help as this phone is my MP3 player and I have a long bus journey coming up!
