Nokia C7: iPhone 4 Killer?

Nokia C7: Symbian^3 with 8-Megapixel Smartphone Snapped The Nokia C7, or what is reported to be the new Cseries smartphone, leaked out into the world last week and since then there has been much speculation about the device. To to the extent that the Nokia C7 may well be the better iPhone 4 comparison device and not the Nokia N8. Join us after the jump to find out why, and to voice your opinion.

We weren't expecting the Nokia C7 to sneak out so soon. What with Nokia having so many great devices already lined up for this year, including the barn-storming Nokia N8, we thought details of this messaging and voice-centric smartphone would take some time to filter now.

The Nokia C7 is rumoured to be a Symbian^3 device with a 3.5-inch capacitive display and a super slim and sleek design. It also comes with a camera that isn't as cutting-edge as the 12-Megapixel to be found on the Nokia N8, but this 8-Megapixel snapper with dual-LED flash is no slouch either.

Now, NokNok reader Victor was the first to suggest that perhaps the Nokia C7 is a better device to compare to the Apple iPhone 4 as it's clearly aimed at a more mainstream and entry-level market. After all, as we can see from the leaked images, the Nokia C7 looks slim enough to compete with the 9.3mm depth of the iPhone.

The Nokia C7 still tops out with a camera that is better than the 5-Megapixel CCD of the iPhone but we'll need to wait and see what the screen resolution and video capture rates are when the C7 is officially launched before we get a better idea of how the two stack-up.

What do you think, is the Nokia C7 is the natural rival to the Apple iPhone 4 because the Nokia N8 is simply too much of a powerhouse to really compare the two side-by-side, or will it be another device, the Nokia X7 for instance? Let us know what you think in the Comments below.

Looks more like a Samsung mobile than Nokia ,but if Nokia have got some new Designers in at last ,it might be a true phone from Nokia, but is it a Chinese fake or not,as thats what you have to watch out for nowdays,as mobilereview.com as just done a review of the E71 an E71 Chinese fake an looks wise its hard to tell the difference

I don’t think anything can ‘kill’ the iPhone anymore as there’s the 2+ million iFans out there who will buy anything Apple puts out, no matter how crappy (such as the iPad). If it’s a Symbian device (the C7) it’s going to be a scaled down N8 as the C series is the budget series, isn’t it?

Why is it so difficult to understand that iPhone value is not about hardware spec (slim design, camera, dual LED flash etc). It is about simplicity of using the device (easy to use UI, device management using iTunes), availability of content (thousands of useful app, podcast thru app store, itunes etc).

I had been using Nokia for many years until I bought my iPhone3G 2 years ago. Since then Nokia and many others are just playing catch up with Apple. Besides Apple – I don’t see other phone manufacturer have come up with original idea to create a better, easy to use, and yet cutting edge device.

@barjanto Interesting points but didn’t Steve Jobs still bang on about it being a device of innovation and tech breakthru rather than it being easy to use? Smartphones are sold on their advancements, which is a clear win for devices like the Nokia C7 and Nokia N8 as they are setting the bar high.

@ Mikey. It’s true – trust you saw last Sreve’s presentation on iPhone 4 – that he demonstrated some of the its cutting edges (incl. design, material, and other HW specifications). In fact iPhone 4 design is so unique:
    http://www.apple.com/iphone/design/

But he also highlighted other values beyond HW spec and design. Those are incl. easy to use HD video editing (iMovie), easy to use Video Conference (FaceTime) and many more).

iPhone killer needs more than just design and HW spec. But also the rest of it including: iPhone OS, AppStore, iTunes Store, iBook and soon.

I don’t get some of the Apple hate on this blog, forget the iPad and iPhone for a second, but that comment by mjoa is simpy moronic to put it lightly, needs a bit of a hisory lesson. I’ve been using Mac OSX for the best part of a decade and it is simply the best bit of software that I’ve ever used, really shows up Windows for the turd it is, then obviously the iPod hit and became a phenomenon because it was a great and simple to use music player, this is what created the Apple fanbase, they’re not all idiots, oh and newsflash there are way more than 2 million Apple fans, in fact Apple is worth more than Microsoft now.

Yeah Apple has a sort of “cult” feel , but they do make some pretty awesome products, I don’t know about the iPad or the iPhone as I’ve never used one, but in terms of mobiles the iPhone does matter. Does anybody seriously think the likes of the Ovi Store, the Android store, the millions of varieties of touch enabled phones, the Nokia Music Store etc would even exist if Apple had never made the 2G iPhone? It may not be strict innovation but the iPhone was a game changer, anybody who even tries to deny that just has a big chip on their shoulder. I think you get better value for money from Nokia devices and which is why I visit Nokia blogs and I can’t wait for the N8, but seriously some people just need to chill.

The only problem I have is with this “new” Apple, that seem to be slowly abandoning Mac for these new trendy devices which is a shame. One thing though if they stuck Mac Osx into an iPad, we’d see the death of laptops.

mike i totally agree wiv wat u say about smartphones being sold on how advanced they become but ive had an iphone 3GS since november (finally gave in…..) and Apple may be slower than than nokia in terms of pushing newer ‘advanced’ devices out but in Apples defence i have to say since ive had my iphone i havent had one software issue whatsoever. maybe apple concentrate more on getting the software bang on to make the handsets stable enough to be able to handle all the tech theyll eventually be piling in it. iphone 4 is by no means an advanced handset in terms of whats already out, but iphone owners will know how reliable it will be. ease of use, beautiful design, cram packed with everything you need in your pocket i can honestly see Apple taking over Nokia (symbian even) in a few years. nokia need to concentrate on a solid and fun, easy to use os before rushing handsets out. i hope symbian 3 delivers….. i cringe when i see my m8 banging at his n97 mini screen , then he has to turn it off coz its crashed. gripe over : )

Always interesting to hear arguments from fanboys about the indomitability of the Apple ecosystem. No mention that in Europe, Nokia\’s OVI Music store now has 20% market share to Apple\’s 28%. Not bad considering it went live about a year ago. For sure, IOS trumps Symbian ^ 3 on intuitive ease for the general public…but Symbian ^3 is a lot closer to Android than Google fans would like to admit. I think both Google and Apple are also wary of Meego, the Intel/Nokia OS based on full Linux kernel. When the real Nokia flagship arrives in a few months, Nokia should have IOS and Android nicely boxed between two OS\’…Symbian ^3 and Meego. Meego for Flagship\’s and tablets; Symbian for the rest of the N,X,C,E series down to lower price platforms arguably on S40 and/or legacy Symbian ^1. By next year, Symbian ^4 will have at least equaled if not leapfrogged Android, with Meego trumping all. As unlimited data plans become a thing of the past…we should also consider OVI maps\’ advantage in terms of off-line network frugality. Lastly, one cannot ignore other externalities…anti-trust issues cropping up for Apple as well as problematic IP challenges. JMO.

Bravo for technical change, but finally I prefered iPhone 3’s design
