The Nokia 5228 is a variation on the basic Nokia 5230 design, which in itself is an entry-level version of the Nokia 5800. Now, the Nokia 5228 first appeared recently as going on sale in Germany. However, it looks like this budget touchscreen smartphone will also be coming to the UK. Read on to find out more about the Nokia 5228 smartphone.
The Nokia 5228 has appeared on the Nokia Online website, prompting the news that it will soon be shipping here in the UK
The Nokia 5228 comes with pretty much the same tech spec as the Nokia 5230, so you'll find a 3.2-inch touchscreen display with 640 x 360-pixel display. The styling is smooth and rounded like the Nokia 5800 and you'll even find the same Symbian S60 5th Edition OS, so you'll be able to download and use thousands of apps from the Ovi Store.

This being a budget device you'll find that, like the Nokia 5230, it comes without Wi-Fi built-in. However, you'll also find that GPS has been left out of this device, making it very much the entry-level model in the range.
The Nokia 5230 range seems to be spreading out with quite a few variants, so the guys over at All About Symbian did this handy guide to working out which model is which:
Nokia 5230 variants
- Nokia 5230 - the original device, which was announced in August last year.
- Nokia 5235 - a Comes with Music version of the Nokia 5230.
- Nokia 5233 - a variant for the Asian market, it lacks the 5230's 3G cellular radio and GPS.
- Nokia 5230 Nuron - a variant for T-Mobile USA, which was announced in March this year, it has 3G bands suited to T-Mobile network. (1700/2100 Mhz).
- Nokia 5228 - a variant for Europe (Germany), it lacks the 5230's 3G cellular radio and GPS.
The Nokia 5228 only has a Homepage and tech spec details at this stage, so you won't find any pricing details for the UK. With the German version costing 139 Euros (around £116) we can expect a similar launch price. However, considering you can now pick up the Nokia 5230 for as little as £80 (inc. VAT) PAYG, we'd expect the budget Nokia 5228 to come in a cheaper price that this quite quickly.
What do you think, is the Nokia 5228 a great first-step in to the smartphone market for those on a tight budget, or would users be better off spending more and getting more features? Let us know what you think in the Comments below.
