Ovi Store Game: Alphabet Wordsearch We've decided to give our sore gaming thumbs a break from more strenuous gaming hijinks to get our hands on something a little more leisurely - Alphabet Wordsearch. Is the wordy puzzler worth a whack? Read our Alphabet Wordsearch review to find out…

For those unfamiliar with the concept of wordsearch puzzles, the aim is to locate hidden words amongst a grid full of seemingly random letters.

Players attempt to locate hidden words just as they would in a real-life wordsearch. Instead of circling the words players are instead required to tap each letter of the word in order for the game to recognise it and get it removed from the need-to-find list located below the letter-filled grid. Spot the word 'APE', for example and you'll need to tap A, P, and E in that order.

Hit the letters in the wrong order and nothing will happen, forcing you to delete each letter before entering it in again - its the game's way of making sure you know what you're doing an not just tapping in random letters - makes sense.

Once you've cleared a puzzle you'll get told whether you've earned a personal best time, before moving onto a new grid. There's plenty of them, with 26 categories for each letter of the alphabet all of which you can choose to play at anytime.

But it's not just a casual word-filled stroll, with a timer in the top right totting up your time the aim players are encouraged to get the best time possible. It doesn't exactly make things more exciting, but it's nice to know some effort's been made to liven things up.

Find things a little difficult and you can ask to be shown tips. Unless you're feeling impatient it's a feature you'll barely need. Some letters are harder to find than others, particularly the diagonals, but with a little patience it's easy enough.

You can also switch view, altering the look of the grid, or peep a stats list letting you know your best, average and total times for completing the puzzles. Again, only most fanatical wordsearchers will notice or even care that those features are there.

If we had a major quibble it's that the presentation needs a serious revamp. The menus look dull and lifeless, depressing even. Not that it makes any difference at all to the gameplay.

If you're reading this review and thinking "So it's just like regular wordsearch" you'd be right. Alphabet Wordsearch does its job, nothing more. Overall - if you're a fan of wordsearch puzzles in general, Alphabet Wordsearch is worth a shot. With a full A-Z of puzzles to poke at it's a decent little accompaniment to long journeys. It's free after all.
