MeeGo, 10-Megapixel Camera And More On The Next Nokia N900?

What should the next Nokia N900 featureWith so many fantastic new smartphones coming out, it seems about time that the Nokia N900 gets a refresh. It’s still one of the most capable and versatile handsets on the market, however, so what features are worth changing? Join us after the cut to find out…

It’s no surprise that the Nokia N900 is one of our favourite smartphones of all time – it seems like there’s nothing this handset can’t do. From running desktop operating systems such as Windows 95, to playing intensive 3D games, it really is unrivalled as an all-rounder.

However, it’s been slightly overshadowed since the launch of the attention grabbing Nokia N8, lacking the brand new operating system or features such as a 12-Megapixel camera. As such, we’ve been thinking about what the Nokia N900 needs to bring it in line with its younger sibling.

For a start, we’d like to see MeeGo incorporated into the Nokia N900, with full support for Nokia’s premium features and apps, such as Ovi Maps. If Nokia puts its weight behind MeeGo, along with Intel’s help, it could be a truly fantastic operating system, and what better handset to take full advantage than the Nokia N900.

It would be nice if the Nokia N900 featured a capacitive touchscreen, for instance. Most of its rivals now feature this technology, and with multi-touch support and better responses, it could make the Nokia N900 an even greater all-rounder.

We’d also like to see an updated camera on the Nokia N900. It doesn’t have to match the 12-Megapixels of the Nokia N8, as Nokia’s ranges often play to different strengths, but a 10-Megapixel sensor with Carl Zeiss optics would be nice.

The form factor is obviously a love it or loath it affair. We love the extra usability the QWERTY keypad gives the Nokia N900, but there’s no doubt that it also makes the device too large for some users. Would you like to see the keyboard dropped in favour of an all touchscreen design?

We’d like to know what you think. Do you agree that the Nokia N900 is a great device, just in need of a few tweaks, or would you like to see a complete overhaul?

Leave a comment and let us know the features you’d like to see on the next Nokia N900.

N900 is currently world’s greatest mobile device. However, what is lacks is just an well updated polished software &additional extra apps.

The next N900 or N9 should have a camera resolution of more that 8MP and a front camera with a 2-3MP resolution atleast for a crystal clear video chat on mobile devices which would make it a device to reckon with.

The next N900 or N9 should have a little more bigger screen size with more better resolution than N900 which would literally make it a replacement for laptops or any tablets. However, the bulkiness has to be reduced and made it more slim.

The N9 or next N900 must have a keyboard and perhaps a much better keyboard with more spacing than the N900. You can say a better version of N97.

Also, last but not the least N97 like vertical position to make viewing movies more better.

im no hacker or a real tech geek but i know what i like…the Nokia N900 is by far the best handset ive ever owned and until a device comes along that improves on everything it does i will not part with it…i prefer its resistive screen to capacitive ones ive used…i find the N900\’s to be more accurate especially when using the stylus which i like too although i dont use it all the time…if Nokia dont support MeeGo on the N900 then someone will make it work as the maemo dev community is large and more than capable of doing such a job…the N8 and if real the N9 look like nice devices but the big downer for me is they run Symbian…dont get me wrong i like this OS as ive used it many times in previous noks ive owned but its not a patch on Maemo….what Nokia need to do is release a N1000 with Meego OS and similar but slimmer form factor to the N900…keep the keyboard and stylus, improve camera\’s and add HDMI….people who want a powerhouse of a true mini pc in their pocket will always choose the open source Linux N900 with hardware keyboard over any touch screen only Nokia series than runs symbian 3

Personally I’m going to get the N8, Symbian is kinda like Windows XP, it might not be real eye candy but for millions of people all over the world, it works and for me thats all that matters. Can’t wait for my N8, I currently have an iPhone 3GS, but I’m fed up with over-reliance on iTunes and while jailbreaking makes the phone absolutely amazing, it isn’t user friendly, let’s face it, jailbreaking is designed by geeks not like a fully open OS like Symbian or Meego which is pretty easy to pick up and use.

I have been through a few Smart phones my self i have had the 3GS and sold it for my Nokia N900 it is a great Smart phone the only thing is miss is the apps for the Iphone but i love the way i can use the internet on the Nokia N900. I like the way i can chat on skype and facebook. One thing Nokia has to do is more support for this phone. Mine seem to Crash a lot of time. the batter life need to be increase i am pretty happy with the Camera and video. I am a huge fan of being able to play Movies with out converting it to MP4. I would like it to play my music louder and the speaker to play like my Blackberry 9700. I would like for Nokia to make it so that we can use it on any Carrier Network cause only with Tmobile or Wind Mobile in Canada just aint cutting it i use it with Rogers in Canada but using it on Edge.(2.5 G) I have seen Meego and it looks like it would be just great on the the nokia N900. It does need a better HD Screen but i am happy for it now but as soon as the Galaxy S and Iphone4 come out then that would be a different story. The only thing i find as a N900 owner is that they try to make this phone as a flagship phone and then just leave us in the dust when they do there big updates for there mid-low end phones. They leave us in the dark. I don’t mind the size cause it is a mini computer. I also didn’t like how they teased us with Adobe Flash 10.1 and now they say it is not going to be available for us anymore. I have not bought a Nokia Product for about 10 years and now i remember why.

I love my N900, I would not like it so much without the keyboard. I have owned my N900 for three months and would really miss the qwerty keyboard. I beleive it would be a mistake to abandon it in teh next big Nokia smartphone. I am happy with the camera. The music player app is awful and could be easily improved to be mush more user friendly. But TBH I dont ahve that many complaints about this amazing phone/mini computer… It is a shame it doesnt have the turn by turn voice navigation EVERY other Nokia now seem to has, plus the lack of Ovi store support is unforgivable; plus no flash 10.1 (this ommision doesnt make sense, as its sold as a mini-computer with phone function, well a computer surley needs newest flas version?!) Accessing the net on the phone is a joy and I still cant beleive it can handle web browsing so well when it is so small!! I am not a programmer/dev I am an end user and I beleive there is no better smart phone available at the moment…..

N900 should have the very latest processor at least 1.2 to 1.5 Mhz.

N900 should have a bigger form factor to redude the thickness of the phone, increase the screen size and increase the battery size.

Call the next release phone, the N901, N902, N903

Remove the micro USB to improve form factor. 32gig is more than enough.

Keep the stylus, design it better to take up less space.

Built in free Nokia Maps is a must.

Built in FM radio app, similar to N95 is a must.

Capacitive touch screen with same or better specs as the N8 is a must.

It should have a camera tucked away in the corner of the device so that a bigger battery can be included.

The finger swipe to reduce or enlarge photos and similar apps should be included.

Nokia should reduce all their touch screen phones to two phones, the N901 and N901* range, one comes with a qirky keyboard and the other does not. Both phones have exactly the same features and specs. One phone will be slighty thinner than the other.
