Nokia S Series: What The People Want

Nokia S Series Leaked – Could We Be Talking MeeGo? Last week we wrote about what we’d like to see in the new Nokia S Series. We already think these handsets will run MeeGo, but there are lots of other factors that can make or break a smartphone, so we asked our readers what they’d like to see in the new Nokia S Series range. Join us after the break to find out more…

If nothing else, we’re think that Nokia S Series handsets could run MeeGo, following a recent slide from Nokia. With all the Symbian handsets grouped together, the Nokia S Series was placed alone, hinting at a different operating system.

One design we’d really like to see would be a large touchscreen device in the form of the Nokia N900, running MeeGo, and without the hardware keypad. As such, it would be a lot thinner and lighter, and easier to pocket.

It seems we’re not alone, either, with reader Aaron pointing out that he’d “kill a man to see a Nokia phone with MeeGo (with Maemo-like UI), the N8’s 12-Megapixel camera, GPU, and the N900 form factor minus the keyboard.” Sound good to you? The very idea has Aaron “drooling uncontrollably”!

However, two of our other readers – Fernando and Luke – think that the Nokia S Series will take a different route. Fernando pointed out that the S Series is supposed to for phones that currently get named as 8800, hinting at a high-end price tag.

Luke agreed with this, pointing out “my impression was the S Series would be the luxury range similar to the 8800 Sapphire Arte”. He also raised an interesting point, stating “I’m guessing the N9 range to be QWERY MeeGo devices, and N8-01 and beyond to be MeeGo non QWERTY phones”.

Swift11 hinted that the Nokia S Series may not even be a mobile phone range – but instead a smartbook, perhaps in the form of the existing Nokia Booklet 3G but running MeeGo?

Again, we’d like to know what you think about the Nokia S Series, so leave a comment below and let us know your opinions.

For Nokia, Series S will be MeeGo “computers” like smartbooks, tablets, etc. ;-)
    No phones here imho.
