Ovi Store Game: Postal Babes Free ReviewPostal Babes is an adolescent gamers dream. It has girls, guns and brutal action. But is it enough to make it worth downloading to your Nokia smartphone? Read our Postal Babes Free review to find out...

Quite what made Postal Babes catch our attentions, we're still unsure *wink* about. It's been available for quite a while now, but we were eager to try something different from the cute and casual gaming fare we've recently been playing we zapped it straight to our Nokia N97.

Don't let its title fool you. It might feature babes in next-to-nothing skimpy gear, but Postal Babes is pretty much all about "kicking ass", as the Ovi Store description reads.

The Babe's university has come under siege by terrorists, who have taken the opportunity to kidnap the female fraternity of said uni. It's up to you, with the help of your fellow scantily clad friends to rescue them.

Postal Babes is a side-scrolling beat-em-up with a bit of exploring thrown in. Occasionally you'll have to look for items such as a mobile phone but the gist of Postal Babes is battering the enemy to a gory fate using guns, baseball bats, machetes and your killer stilettos.

Beginning the game for the first time the controls can appear daunting, with lots of commands displayed on screen for jumping left and right, walking, crouching, attacking and for using your items. It's more than a little fiddly to begin with - you'll find yourself having to move your fingers all over the place. Give it a few minutes and you'll soon get used to it. The on-screen button layout makes things a tad easier by placing buttons according to their use. Buttons indicating left walking movements are places left of the screen and vice-versa.

Though there is some element of storytelling in the game, thanks to the odd text narrative sequence and exploration bits, underneath the surface Postal Babes is all about the violence as you find yourself going from one level to the next killing bad guys. There's plenty of them but they're easy to dispatch with just a few hits depending on your weapon of choice as you go from location to location rescuing hostages.

Controlling your character, the action feels very stilted and stiff, as you'll notice when swinging a baseball bat or exploring the corridors of buildings, which we must add are well detailed. A lot of effort has clearly gone into making the settings vibrant and well detailed making Postal Babes feel more like a proper game rather than an app. We also like that you can resume your game from where you left off even after exiting the game completely.

But is it any good? There's plenty of enemies to kill, weapons to use and places to explore and levels look great. The control system might take some getting used to but once you get over them Postal Babes has plenty to offer mobile gamers looking for something a little different from mobile mini-games.
