Sir Philip Green Prefers Nokia Over Apple iPhone 4

Sir-PHILIP-GREEN-prefers-NOKIA-largeWe know full well how easy it is to get attached to a mobile phone, but the lengths some people go to is truly surprising. The rich and famous aren’t exempt from this, either, with retail magnate Sir Philip Green turning out to be a proud Nokia owner. Even with over £4.5 billion at his disposal, apparently there’s no chance of him being tempted by the dark side…

Sir Philip Green is the ninth wealthiest person in the UK, and is the owner of Topshop, BHS and other retail giants. It’s easy to expect him to own the latest and greatest mobile phone, then, or perhaps go the same way as many other celebs, and opt for an Apple iPhone.

It seems that Sir Philip has more sense than that, however, shunning the latest and more fragile smartphones with antenna issues such as the Apple iPhone 4 altogether in favour of a trusty Nokia 6130. It’s not that Green hasn’t got round to upgrading, either, as it would seem that he truly loves his nine-year old Nokia 6130.

In an interview with the Daily Mail, Green stated that there’s “no chance” of him swapping his beloved Nokia for a smartphone, instead pointing out “I have only just worked out how to use this one”.

As with anything else of the Nokia 6130’s age, we’d be very worried about losing or damaging it, however. What would you do? Where could you get another new one? Sir Philip has neatly sidestepped this issue, with the New York Post pointing out Green has “bought the entire back stock of the obsolete 6130 in case one breaks”.

Excellent. We’d like to hear what Nokia you’re still attached to. Do you use an older handset, or are you always the first to upgrade? Leave a comment below and let us know.

Guys, you should work harder, how many people are running this site? 1, 2? It’s not acceptable to post nokia news after engadget for example.

I actually did go over to the Dark Side lol, but I’m definitely getting an N8 as soon as Nokia release it, can’t wait. My iPhone 3GS is a decent device, but that total iTunes dependence is maddening, anybody who’s used an iPhone will understand how frustrating iTunes is. A couple of months after I got my 3GS last year, I thought I’d put on some songs onto my phone from my sisters laptop, but iTunes wouldn’t let me, the only choice I had was to wipe my phone clean and create a new library on that laptop, I mean that’s just lunacy lol. And just little things like the crippled bluetooth etc do your head in, it’s great for gaming but even that novelty wears off after 6 months. To be honest the only thing I’ll miss about the 3GS is the amazing Monkey Island remake and GTA Chinatown Wars which kinda says it all. Read Charlie Brooker’s column in the Guardian about the “jabscreen” that basically highlights all faults of the iPhone and it’s a bloody entertaning piece to read too.

The thing that I like about Nokia phones is you can use them without having to install software on your PC, simple drag and drop is the way to go. Plus I’ll save a heap of money with the N8 when compared to iphone prices, it’s an absolute no brainer this time, I’m defnitely getting the N8 and ebaying my 3GS.

Will Nokia be seen as an old fuddy-duddy company who’s time has past, if they position themselves as serving the likes of Sir Richard Green? How should they reinvent themselves? How do they reposition themselves? Fascinating MBA study!
