Nokia-terminal-mode-in-actionNokia’s Terminal Mode initiative looks like taking the world of in-car entertainment to the next level, and it’s a project that’s truly snowballing. Already including manufacturers such as BMW and Audi, the latest to join the Terminal Mode project is VW, one of the largest car companies in the world. Read on to find out more…

Nokia’s Terminal Mode looks like it’s really getting going, with many of the major car manufacturers now showing an interest. BMW, Porsche, Audi and Mercedes had already signed up before Apple started working on its Apple iPod Out project, and now VW has joined the Nokia fold.

However, not only has VW joined the initiative, it’s also the first manufacturer to show us Terminal Mode in action, highlighting how a prototype VW Passat may use the technology.

In this case, the prototype Passat duplicate’s the Nokia N97 Mini’s display entirely – highlighting all the icons, and whatever else is shown on screen. There are even some additional buttons provided for extra functionality, but as it stands we love the idea of being able to swap the excellent Ovi Maps from our Nokia to a large in-car touchscreen display.

Unfortunately, VW admits that we're still some way away from final production versions of Terminal Mode. Still, nice to see so many manufacturers on board already.
