Smartphones are evolving at a scary rate, with technology getting more and more advanced. As such, it’s always a pleasure to see concept handsets, with an eye to future technology. The Nokia Kinetic is a concept by British designer Jeremy Innes-Hopkins, and offers an innovative feature that Nokia may want to include in future handsets. Read on to find out more…
While concept smartphones can show the future for companies such as Nokia, many devices also feature ideas that will never make it onto production models. The Nokia Kinetic could be different, however, featuring an idea that could easily be put into a production handset.
Unlike most smartphones, the Nokia Kinetic features a heavily sculpted base, with an electromagnet inside. Leave the Nokia Kinetic on your desk, and when something happens – such as the alarm going off or the phone ringing – the magnet makes the phone stand up.
Turning off the alarm or terminating a video call is then just a simple case of pushing the phone back down again – in a similar manner to putting a regular landline phone down after you’ve finished your call.
While the Nokia Kinetic wasn’t actually designed by Nokia itself, it was commissioned by Nokia, according to Engadget, with a former Nokia designer working as a tutor on the project.
