Nokia N8 To Avoid Apple iPhone 4 Reception Issues?

Nokia-n8-design-3With the Nokia N8 on its way in the next couple of months, we’ve been thinking about how Nokia’s flagship handset will handle phone calls, and if there’s any chance of the aluminium range-topper suffering from reception issues. As with its other handsets, we think Nokia has everything sorted, however – join us after the cut to find out how…

Since the infamous launch of the Apple iPhone 4 – and the reception issues that followed it – Apple has been trying its best to get out of jail free by blaming other manufacturers. Pointing out that smartphones aren’t perfect, Apple has delighted in showing that companies such as Nokia can also suffer from reception issues if you really try hard enough.

As we demonstrated with our Nokia N97 Mini, the claims don’t hold up under scrutiny, with our handset only dropping one bar of its signal when gripped tightly and uncomfortably, and even with the antenna completely covered with both hands it still refused to drop calls.

Thanks to some neat design touches, we think this will also be the case with Nokia’s range topper – the upcoming Nokia N8. The case on the Nokia N8 is constructed from a single piece of aluminium, but Nokia has ensured the end plates on the handset are constructed from plastic.

Even if we hadn't seen the phone in the metal (and plastic), we'd still be pretty confident in the Nokia N8's abilities, with Nokia's claim that “We prioritise antenna performance over physical design if they ever in conflict” proving to be the case in the vast majority of models that we've seen over the past few years.
