Gig Finder is an app that does pretty much what it says on the tin, giving advice on the latest gigs in the UK. It uses the GPS chip in your Nokia smartphone to work out where you are, pointing out where bands are playing nearby. Read on to find out if it works…
Gig Finder is a useful app for music fans, letting you know everything you know about gigs in your area. You can search by post code, or also by the gigs that are going on the nearest to your current location.
The menu in Gig Finder is pretty uninspiring, with a plain white background and grey writing. It is easy to use, however, with large finger-friendly icons that are the perfect accompaniments for the Symbian S60 5th Edition operating system.
Under the recommendations section of Gig Finder, it’s possible to look at Suggestions, Venues and Gigs Here. Although we were offered some gigs in the local area, we were also offered a lot more further afield, with some nearby options missed.
That said, if a band you know about doesn’t appear to be playing in your local area, it’s also possible to do a search using Gig Finder. Along with locations, you can also search by day and date.
Once a gig is highlighted, Gig Finder can work in conjunction with Ovi Maps, highlighting the exact location of the gig. It’s also possible to get directions straight to the front door of the gig, thanks again to Ovi Maps.
Overall, we’re fans of Ovi Maps. There’s some room for improvement, and we’d like to see more local offerings under recommendations, but the search function works well and Ovi Maps is neatly integrated.
