ovi-app-review-snaptu-1Keeping up with social networking sites, sports and news websites can be tricky and time consuming, and also means that you have to have several apps. Snaptu solves this problem, letting you look after your Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, Picassa and lots more, including Guardian integration and sports news. To find out more, join us after the break…

Snaptu is a one-stop-shop for most things internet related, including websites and social networking. Considering it’s a free app, it’s amazing how comprehensive Snaptu actually is, offering support for a host of entertainment sites including films, TV, news and sports information, and even London transport updates and pub guides.

We particularly like the Facebook part of Snaptu – it’s not as neat and tidy as the default Nokia app, but it is a lot quicker, letting you update information or check out peoples’ profiles in seconds.

Twitter is similar, offering a simple yet effective interface that works so well because it’s fast. Using Snaptu, you can keep tabs on your friends, send messages, Tweet and carry out most other functions.

The News and Blogs part of Snaptu has a similar no-frills appearance, but if it’s speed and content you’re more interested in then this app is definitely worth a look. There are loads of news feeds as standard, including big names such as Reuters and Engadget, but it’s also possible to add your own. The same goes for the sports section.

Along with sports news, it’s also possible to click straight through to get live football scores, adding the teams you want to follow to make it easier to keep track.

The London Pub Guide integrated into Snaptu is another handy feature, offering reviews and details of watering holes in your area. The pubs are rated, alongside the reviews, and details include addresses, phone numbers, and the ability to send where you’re going via Twitter, Facebook or email.

Overall, there are far too many features in Snaptu to cover here, which is perhaps one of the app’s slight problems. A jack of all trades, it feels a bit like it’s trying to be the best application for all of the people – a near impossible task.

That said, it’s a very good effort, and if you don’t mind the simple menus then the speed it offers when opening news stories, browsing Facebook or updating Twitter makes it well worth a try.
