SMS Preview is available for free through the Ovi Store. It only takes a couple of seconds to download, and it runs in the background while you carry on using your Nokia smartphone as usual.
Opening the app gives you very little – there’s a simple menu, where you can change a couple of settings. You’ll be able turn SMS Preview on or off, change the length of time your messages are displayed for, and check for updates.
Once set up, that’s it. You’ll never notice SMS Preview again until you get a text message. We found our test Nokia N97 Mini ran at the same speed as usual, with no sign of lag and quick responses.
When you do get a message, the whole message is displayed on your Nokia’s screen, without having to press a button or open the message itself.
It works really well, although we found that some words weren’t displayed onscreen with the phone in portrait mode. Turn the handset round to landscape orientation and the whole message is displayed.
Overall, it’s a fairly neat app. We’d prefer it if the entire message was displayed in portrait as well as landscape, but it’s still nice to know what your messages are from a single glance.
