Nokia N9 or Nokia E7 – What Happened There? Remember the Nokia N9, or was it the Nokia C9, or even the Nokia E7 that everyone was getting excited about? What exactly happened to that smartphone and are we likely to see it emerge any time soon? Read on to find out more about the Nokia N9 that could have been the Nokia E7, that everyone was ranting about....

Nokia N9, what's that you ask? It's amazing how quickly our attentions can get diverted. Before the latest buzz around a late August launch for the Nokia N8 it seemed that everyone was looking for the next big Nokia thing, latching on to the idea that the Nokia N9 was inbound.

It all began with leaked images of a device possibly thought to be that of the Nokia N9 or the Nokia C9 and while the photos look remarkably like the leaked Nokia N9 video from a few weeks back, it would seem this device is running Symbian^3 operating system and not the MeeGo OS the Nokia N9 is reportedly thought to sport.

You may remember it, it comes with a 4-inch touchscreen, packs in a distinctive slide-out QWERTY keyboard and runs the Symbian^3 OS. Adding to the feature list was the rather impressive 8-Megapixel camera, which no doubt will be great for snaps and video. The last we heard about the leaked device was that Nokia has managed to kill the device OTA, which was rather dramatic to say the least.

Now, it seems unlikely that Nokia will want to steal the limelight away from the Nokia N8 before it officially hits the stands so we won't be seeing the Nokia N9/Nokia E7 any time super-soon. However, with Nokia World 2010 coming up in just a few short weeks we have to wonder if this device will finally make an official appearance? We certainly hope so as it would be great to give the Nokia N8 a running partner in the Symbian^3 stakes.

What do you think, is this device a shoe-in for Nokia World 2010? If so, what other devices do you think will emerge over the next few weeks? Let us hear all your conspiracy theories in the Comments below.

    it better appear soon!

Should put the same 12MP camera in N8 for the N9. The N9 has a 4-inch screen, it deserves a better camera.

defo should have the 12mp on the n9,stupid not too.!!!

I want my MeeGo! I was hoping this phone ran MeeGo. I love the form factor. This could have brought me back from my Android excursion. :(

plus it should have atleast 32gb on board or even 64gb to differentiate……. the main purpose of the 4 inch screen is surely media, movies etc…….. so give it more memory plus twin micro sd slots and wireless hdmi

Hmm, much as we all want this device (if it exists) to pack the 12MP camera punch of the N8, I can\’t help thinking this is the N86 all over again. Those of us with N97\’s could have done with the N86\’s 8MP lens but were left with a (admittedly pretty good) 5MP one.

If Nokia stick a 12MP lens in this, who\’s going to bother with the N8? It\’s one of the N8\’s USP\’s and I would be very surprised if Nokia didn\’t see it this way.

Sure, us lot looking for the ideal phone will scream about it, but the sad fact is 90% of users won\’t care. 12MP? 8MP? They all end up the same low-res trash on Facebook!

Shame, as I refuse to buy touch-only phones as find txting/emailing far too annoying and slow on them (Nokia\’s implementation has not been great, but even Apple can\’t get it right) so looks like once again I\’ll end up with a \"jack-of-all-trades, master-of-none\" hybrid device (the \"N9\" or whatever it gets called) looking enviously at super-sharp N8 stills…

Still, can\’t complain. Despite the fact it probably won\’t have a single killer feature, hopefully Nokia will have learnt from the N97 debacle and the \"N9\" will just be reliably rock solid across all departments – the phone the N97 *should* have been if you will.
[i.e. updated OS, camera & GPS constructed properly, sufficient RAM/C:drive space, widgets that work and don\'t hang your phone, pre-installed Messaging, etc etc etc...]

So message to Nokia: hurry up with the N8 already, so those of us waiting for this one can find out when it\’s due, costs, features, etc… Been out of contract 2 months and getting itchy fingers!
