On first glance, the Nokia E5-00 and Nokia E55 may not have a great deal in common but both are messenger devices and come with quick QWERTY typing action. Both have a 2.4-inch inch, albeit it the Nokia C5-00 in Landscape and the Nokia E55 in Portrait mode and both can claim to have great social networking skills. The screen of the Nokia C5-00 is a 2.4-inch non-touch display with a 320 x 240-pixel resolution. The Nokia E55 sports the same display resolution simply twisted 90-degrees to 240 x 320 pixels. It also differs from the Nokia C5-00 in that it’s panel offers up 24-bit colour depth while in order to keep costs down the Nokia C5-00 uses an 18-bit colour display.

You’ll also find that both the Nokia E5-00 and Nokia E55 differ in the screen technology used. The Nokia E5-00 uses a transmissive screen, which is simply backlit, while the Nokia E55 has a transflective screen, which is lit from the back and the sides. This means the Nokia E55 has the slight edge when viewing outdoors. However, as we noted when we compared the Nokia C5-00 and Nokia E72, this isn’t really a problem as the display on the Nokia E5-00 is bright and easy to read.
The Nokia E55 weighs in at 88g, compared to 126g for the Nokia E5-00 but the big advantage for the new Nokia E Series device is the use of a full QWERTY keyboard. While the Nokia E55 offers QWERTY functionality this is due to if being a compact keyboard whereby the keys double up with multiple letters. Firing off messages on the Nokia E5-00 is simply a joy. The keyboard is well-spaced and the keys have a decent touch to them.
You can expect a more responsive feel from the Nokia E5-00 as you’ll find 512MB of NAND Flash memory on-board, twice that of the Nokia E55, and with 250MB of user storage you’ll be able to load more apps on the device too.
When it comes to multimedia, you’ll find the Nokia E5-00 has a clear advantage as it comes with 5-Megapixel camera, opposed to the 3.2-Mgapixel CCD of the Nokia E55. That said, both can record video at the same 15fps rating and take advantage of MP4 and H.263 formats.
The big selling point with the Nokia E55 is its knock out battery life, allowing for up to 23 days of standby time, eight hours of talktime from a single charge. The Nokia E5-00 tops this with over 13 hours of talktime and up to 26 days of standby.
