Ovi Store game review: Checkers TouchJoining the many board games to hit Nokia devices is Checkers, in the form of Checkers Touch. It's a free, basic Ovi Store affair. Is this iteration of the board-based strategy game worth zapping to your Nok? Read our Checkers Touch review to find out.

Checkers Touch uses your Nok's touchscreen to recreate a game of touchscreen-based Checkers (or Draughts, as it's called in the UK).

Starting up the Ovi Store game, you'll find it's a simple set-up. You're presented with the option to play by yourself against a CPU-controlled opponent, or with  against another nearby (human) player as you and a mate take turns on the same device to make your moves. Each mode plays out in exactly the same way as the other.

It's easy to play, just like the real thing, perhaps easier thanks to prompts letting you know where it's possible to move. It's not a hint system, but it's useful to those new to checkers.

Touch down on a piece piece, and green arrows appear letting you know which diagonal direction you can move it. To move, simply hold down on the piece and drag it to the desired square on the board. Thankfully the pieces are large enough for even the most ample-fingered to move without having to locate a nearby makeshift stylus.

The aim is still the same - capture as many of the opponents pieces as possible by jumping over them - once you do so, their piece disappears from the board. Each piece that lands on the opposing players end turns into a king, gaining the ability to move backwards and forwards.

While nothing special, Checkers Touch does everything it needs to. It's Checkers. Nothing more. If you're a fan of the game then it's worth the free download to waste a good few minutes. If not, there's plenty of other more entertaining Ovi Store games out there.
